FN-DC FALO Mark II Light Machine Gun
FN-DC FALO-II with deployed bipod
The FN FALO was originally developed by Fabrique Nationale de Herstal, and was a heavy barreled variant of the FN FAL that was capable of prolonged automatic fire and suitable for use as a squad automatic weapon. The FN FALO's incorporation of an integrated bipod was particularly innovative, as when folded up the two arms of the bipod serve as a heat shield along the barrel's sides, thus allowing for safer and more convenient handling of the weapon after the barrel has been heated by extended fire.
The current incarnation of the FN FALO is the FN-DC FALO Mark II, an evolved and rechambered evolution of the original design. Now chambered in 8.25 mm SuperJet, and making use of more advanced materials such as synthetic polymers and an advanced alloy heavy barrel, the FN-DC FALO Mk. II offers longer range, more accuracy, more power, a lighter weight, greater ease in rapidly changing barrels, and more resiliency and reliability than the original FN FALO.
FN-DC FALO Mk. IIs are generally issued on a fireteam level, with every 6 member Army or Marine fireteam being equipped with one to serve as a long range light machine gun that can provide high volumes of suppressive fire. 30 round box magazines, 50 round drum magazines, and 100 round Beta-C twin drum magazines are issued, while the 12 and 24 round box magazines of the Perim Armaments DCSR-II are also compatible with the FN-DC FALO Mk. II and may be used if required.
