8.25 mm SuperJet
Similar in concept to the 20th century GyroJet, 8.25 mm SuperJet bullets are assisted in their flight towards their targets by rocket motors integrated into the rear of the bullet. SuperJet, however, has a massive technological advantage over GyroJet as it relies not on 20th century rocketry but more advanced, more powerful contemporary micro-rocket engines and fuel.
SuperJet also differs from GyroJet in that the SuperJet bullet is seated into a conventional 11.5 mm cartridge that serves as a "booster" to launch the rocket-assisted 8.25 mm bullet out of a rifled barrel in a "cold-launch" fashion before its rocket motors activate. This cold-launch design, while adding complexity to both the ammunition and the weapons systems designed to fire it, was designed to give the bullet an initial velocity from which to build on with its own thrust as well as prevent fouling of the barrel by rocket exhaust. Fired out of a standard military Perim Armaments DCSR-II Rifle, the micro-rockets on a SuperJet bullet will not engage until the bullet has traveled 30 cm away from the end of the DCSR-II's rifled barrel.
The 8.25 mm SuperJet has been adopted not only for military use but also in the field of law enforcement and on the civilian weapons market.
